Apple’s App Store facilitated $1.3 trillion worth of app sales and billings in 2024, and the company stated it took no commission on 90% of that total. The figure comes from a new Apple-commissioned study, released as the company works to portray its platform as profitable for developers and fair in its fee structure.

Some app developers are seizing the moment to try to get around the Apple tax. On May 1, Apple finally succumbed to a court order forcing the company to let U.S. apps link directly to external payment options.

However, Appfigures’ analysis found the App Store made $61.5 billion globally in 2022, which grew to $91.3 billion in 2024. From this, Apple made more than $27.39 billion in commissions globally last year, Appfigures also said.
